Purpose of Activity/Assignment
The GWC seeks to advocate and influence greater WASH coordination in crises, being a driver of change strengthening inter-sectoral linkages, collaboration, partnerships and innovation on WASH coordinated responses. This requires dedicated resources to implement advocacy and capacity strengthening activities for the Global WASH Cluster’s (GWC) and as defined by the advocacy strategic guidance 2023.
The purpose of this assignment is to support the GWC with operational and capacity strengthening approaches for advocacy and to implement the advocacy toolkit for and develop advocacy strategies for National Coordination Platforms (NCP). This will support and promote evidence-based advocacy best practices in humanitarian WASH coordination, identify global advocacy issues, develop key messages, and define uptake processes for the GWC to carry out its Strategic Plan 2022 – 2025.
Estimated Duration of the Contract
- 359 working days from 01 January 2024 to 30 June 2025
Consultant’s Workplace and Official Travel
- This is a Home based consultancy.
- As part of this assignment, there will be an estimated number of up to 10 travels/deployments expected. The consultant will arrange her/his travel as and when they take place and related costs will be reimbursed.
Estimated Cost of the Consultancy & Payment Schedule
- Please propose a Professional Fee for 359 working days from 01 January 2024 to 30 June 2025 to undertake this assignment.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- A first university degree (Bachelor) in one of the following fields is required: International Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs, Education, Political Science, Management or other relevant field.
Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in advocacy, communications, information and/or knowledge management within the humanitarian WASH sector, preferably with cluster/sector coordination platforms
- 6 years of relevant experience in advocacy, communications, information and/or knowledge management may be accepted in lieu of a university degree
- Previous experience with UN / UNICEF and knowledge of humanitarian clusters; humanitarian WASH experience is an asset.
- Experience in developing advocacy strategies and approaches is an asset within the humanitarian WASH sector, preferably with cluster/sector coordination platforms
- Experience in developing and rolling out capacity strengthening approaches is an asset within the humanitarian WASH sector, preferably with cluster/sector coordination platforms
- Experience and advanced skills in data analysis and visualization, information and knowledge management and graphic design tools and software (Excel, R, Adobe suite, Power BI, ARC-GIS, Web content management)
- Good analytical and conceptual thinking
- Ability to communicate with high efficiency to diverse audiences
- Proven evidence of writing and presentation skills
- Ability to be flexible and work within tight deadlines
- Ability to work collaboratively, both independently and within a multicultural team
- Excellent managerial/organization skills and a solution-oriented attitude
- A strong sense of client orientation and a strong drive for results
- Written and spoken fluency in English. Other languages, particularly French, Spanish, or Arabic, are strongly desirable.
