South African Radio Astronomy Observatory Undergraduate Scholarships for 2025 (R173 040 and a once-off laptop grant of R12 000)
The 2025 undergraduate scholarship level is R173 040. In addition to the scholarship, students are eligible for a once-off laptop grant of R12 000.
South African Radio Astronomy Observatory Undergraduate Scholarships for 2025 (R173 040 and a once-off laptop grant of R12 000)
SARAO will consider applications from South African citizens and permanent residents who achieved a minimum of 70% in Mathematics in Grade 12, or a minimum grade-point average of 65% at undergraduate level, and who are studying/plan to study, any of the following degrees:
- Bachelor of Electronic Engineering
- Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
- Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering
- Bachelor of Computer Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics and Physics
- Bachelor of Science in Physics and Electronics
- Bachelor of Science in Astronomy / Astrophysics and Physics
- Bachelor of Computer Science, with co-major in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics
- Bachelor of Science in Physics and Electronics / Astrophysics / Computer Science
FUNDING LEVELS AND PERIOD OF SUPPORT FOR SARAO UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
- The 2025 undergraduate scholarship level is R173 040. In addition to the scholarship, students are eligible for a once-off laptop grant of R12 000.
- For Bachelor of Engineering degrees, the duration of a SARAO undergraduate scholarship is one year for fourth-year students, two years for third-year students, three years for second-year students and four years for first-year students.
- For Bachelor of Science degrees, the duration of a SARAO undergraduate scholarship is one year for third-year students, two years for second-year students, and three years for first-year students
