Job Advert Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineering Assistant role is to assist the Asset Manager to act as the custodian for this category of the water supply infrastructure. This individual is responsible for ensuring that these assets are specified, installed, operated and maintained to provide expected levels of service at minimum lifecycle cost.

Minimum Requirements

1. Formal Engineering qualifications (N4).
2. Formal Trade test.
3. Minimum of 4 to 8 years’ experience in engineering /infrastructure management.
4. Minimum 3 years engineering experience in the water industry

Primary Duties

1. Assist the Asset Manager to lead and manage all activities of the section that will result in optimal lifecycle performance of the specifics category of assets
2. Assist the Asset Manager to develop, compile, execute and manage the section business plan that supports the departmental and divisional business plan
3. Assist the Asset Manager to develop and maintain generic standards for asset performance and availability, maintenance regimes, rates of deterioration, lifespan, etc.
4. Provide and update plans and costs for the management of each asset, for incorporation into the integrated Asset Management Plan
5. Manage and lead the process relating to the review and improvement of standards and specifications for the asset category

Manage asset assessors and maintenance staff in:
o Condition assessment and performance measurement of assets to agreed standards and frequencies
o Regular audits of maintenance activities
o Providing a maintenance support service to operating sites
Manage, specify and review improvements to design specifications, operating and maintenance regimes. Review and approve specification and design of new assets to ensure lifecycle performance is adequately addressed

1. Specification, design, operation and maintenance of the asset category

3. Condition assessment and performance measurement techniques and evaluation
4. Asset rehabilitation technology
5. Principles of plant maintenance and reliability
6. Principles of asset management
