Lab Technician Job Vacancy at South African Breweries- Apply Now

The key purpose of this role is to ensure quality assurance procedures and analysis are conducted in compliance with company standards and specifications across packaging production lines. This role is responsible for sampling, sample preparation, and analysis of packaging raw materials and in-process packaging products to maintain optimal product quality and production efficiency.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Quality Assurance and Quality Control:

1. Responsible for personal safety andthe safety of others in his / her designated area
2. Operating, Calibrating and Maintaining equipment in packaging process areas according to VPO standards​
3. Reviewing packaging quality performance against targets, addressing out of controls and process deviation using the VPO tools​
4. Ensuring compliance to Food Safety Standard as described in the FS management system
5. Review and improve Quality at Source Standard Operating Practices ​
6. Responsible for Quality at Source including training on and check the execution of standards by the operation executed by production teams ​
7. Verify compliance with daily routines as per Agenda of Routine Execute Daily schedule
8. Manage personal development plan

Voyager Plant Optimization:

1. Champion VPO within the work area
2. Understand VPO Pillars and apply it to the daily tasks
3. Action glidepath to help drive VPO means to deliver KPIs

Governance in Packaging:

1. Standards are in place and well understood
2. Training and operationalassessments are done against the specified methods
3. Verification of the execution of the procedures to ensure that they comply with the standards
4. Verifying Quality Control and Analysis in utilized by packaging,  raw materials and quality production teams​
5. Ensuring for quality packaged product is delivered by designated production lines
6. Ensuring execution of required quality checks and analyses, and accuracy of results inputted on the appropriate information system
7. Ensure that VPO tools are utilized and imparted to production teams

Maintenance of Equipment:

1. Ensure and conduct autonomous operations as defined for the instrumentation
2. Ensure equipment is operated according to SOP’s
3. Develop work instruction to empower autonomous maintenance of equipment, to ensure its uptime
4. Identify defective equipment, and report these to the Team Leader, Instrumentation Technician and Lab Specialist

Communication: ​

1. Actively participate in shift meetings, asking questions to test understanding and contributing suggestions. Making use of the action logs to record issues, problems and improvement opportunities ​
2. Make use of relevant communication media) to stay informed and inform others of issues
3. Utilizing VPO digital tools to improve understanding of process and standards
4. Required to escalate out-of-control processes to Team Leader or Process Artisan and Packaging Quality Specialist
5. Complete required hand over to incoming shift team members, ensuring the issues relating to plant performance, quality and maintenance are communicated​

Minimum Requirements:

1. Advanced Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Microbiology or equivalent
2. 1-2 Years in Laboratory, Brewing or Packaging operation
3. Understanding of brewing & packaging process and environment
