Fitter (including machining) Engineering Learnerships At South Deep Gold Mine: Grade 12 with Maths and Science

South Deep Gold Mine is offering aspiring Employees and or prospective Applicants from within our Host Communities interested in pursuing a career in Engineering, the opportunity to enter into a formal Engineering Learnership programme.

To qualify as an Applicant from a Host Community you would need to:

  1. Be a resident of one of our Host Communities being Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein or Jachtfontein, and
  2. Successfully have passed the 4 x N3 Trade specific subjects as required by both the MQA and South Deep mine.                   

The programme offers practical work-based training and external technical training to enable learners to adapt effectively in the world of work and to qualify as artisans at the end of their programme.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with Maths and Science
  • Be in possession of full N3 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science,  Mechano-Technology Trade theory and Engineering Drawing
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Fitter (including machining)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undergoing technical training as prescribed by MQA and short courses as required by the mine during the Learnership Maintain consistent performance.
  • Initiating developmental discussions
  • Seeking feedback
  • Adhering to the company`s conditions of employment, policies and code of conduct
  • Abide by all health and safety rules / regulations applicable on the mine.
  • Promoting of teamwork and being an effective team member.
  • Wearing all the prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) while on mine/ at the training centre
  • Abide by the values of South Deep Gold Mine i.e. safety, integrity, respect, responsibility, innovation, and collaborative delivery
