Position Description:

As a Communications and Advocacy Intern at the Centre for Human Rights, you will play a crucial role in advancing the Faculty’s mission by assisting in the development and execution of strategic communication and advocacy initiatives. This internship offers an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in non-profit communication, advocacy, and social impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content Creation: You will be expected to produce engaging content for various platforms, including social media, newsletters, websites, and press releases. Your creative writing skills will be essential in conveying our organization’s message effectively.
  2. Social Media Management: Help manage and maintain our social media presence, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging. Monitor trends and engage with our online community to build a strong online presence.
  3. Research and Analysis: Research on key issues relevant to our organization’s mission and advocacy efforts. Summarise findings, track legislative updates, and assist in the development of advocacy materials.
  4. Advocacy Support: Collaborate with the advocacy team to organise and promote advocacy campaigns, including grassroots efforts, petitions, and meetings with policymakers.
  5. Event Coordination: Assist in the planning and execution of events, webinars, and workshops related to our advocacy initiatives.
  6. Graphic Design: If you have graphic design skills, you may have the opportunity to create visually appealing materials such as infographics and promotional graphics.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable passion and commitment to the protection of the human rights.
  • Strong research, organisational and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a virtual setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to contributing 20 hours per week to the internship.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content management. 
  • Research skills and attention to detail. 
  • Graphic design skills (preferred but not required).
  • Relevant coursework or prior internship experience in communications, advocacy, or a related field is a plus.
